This, the second in our map updates for 2026, shows Soi 4, Soi Nana Tai having a large number of new Nitespots as compared to the (long out-of-date) August 2022 map. Both Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy, as expected, had fewer changes in survey inventory. Feel free to download for personal use.

Hello,
Your February historical piece on A Go-Go was the best. However, in reading other histories, I found that the world's first A Go-Go girl was a Miss Rhonda Lane, and not your Patty Brockhurst. You may want to mention this in a follow up article. Keep up the good work.
MIDNITE HOUR:Greetings,
Thanks for writing in. We spent much of our time in preparation of that article researching the origins of the first A Go-Go dancer. There were several 'histories' available to us, so we continued until we found consistency in the reporting. (We found inconsistencies, for example, in two different pages on Wikipedia). It wasn't until we came across the Grunge account that we found an accounting that was consistent. Grunge gives a straightforward history (verified piecemeal by others) naming Patty Brockhurst. We also researched Rhonda Lane - she was an erotic dancer working more than one club in L.A. at the time, and in fact did work at one time at the Whisky A Go-Go - she was just not the first.
Very little (again) activity on Patpong 1 Road. We note the Wong Barber Shop was closed. No sign indicating a reopening, so we must assume "Closed" means "Closed". -File Photo
The Bar Abbie, open almost 2 months is already closed. Should they return from the dead, we shall duly advise...

PATPONG 2
The Top Light is closed - again. But they open and close like an old screen door a-flappin' in a hurricane. Expect they'll be opening up again soon. -File Photo
PATPONG 2
The Fresh Boys (up on The Ramp) have shelled out for a bunch of new signage. We never see anyone entering or leaving when we pass by on survey - perhaps it gets busier later?-File Photo
PATPONG 2
Also up on The Ramp, the relatively new Off Key has nailed up some new neon. Looking good.
After a long renovation, the Supernova has rolled out the red carpet. It resides in the old Kazy Kozy digs. (It was worth the wait....) Welcome to the bright lights, big city...
SOI COWBOY
The Midnite has recently upgraded their signage - which is a recurring necessity for the bars on Soi Cowboy's neon jungle. Let this train roll on...
The Nana 4 Massage on Subsoi Big Mango has winked out. The density of massage parlors in Bangkok make it a highly competitive financial adventure.... -File Photo
By the time you read this, Soi Katoey's latest, Blonde, will have opened. Welcome them to Darwin's trials of attrition...
SOI KATOEY (Silom Soi 4)
The upstairs #Bipolar has become the Eau De Toilette (or perhaps the Shower Show Eau De Toilette - depending on how you read the new neon). Not sure if this is just a name-change or if this is a new Venue... Located at the top of the Soi. In any case, welcome them to the neon wars...
The on-again, off-again Wakanda Pub & Restr. is 'off-again'. We'll check back next survey and advise of any further flip-flop. -File Photo
KHAO SAN ROAD
The main Immortal Bar is being renovated, however the outside bar is still open for business. We expect they will be back full-time next month. Note: The '60's group The Immortals used the same font for their publicity material, we wonder if there is any relationship... Keep on rolling...
KHAO SAN ROAD
The Sonny Massage has been open for some time... we have only recently noticed they had a name... They are located on a small sub-soi off Trok Mayom. May they continue to slip and slide...
KHAO SAN ROAD
The Ye Lai Xiang Chinese restaurant will be opening in the near future in the old Rocco Bar digs. As a 'restaurant', not a Nitespot by definition, we will not be 'following'.
The Exotic Bangkok has reopened in Subsoi Hana. Welcome them back to the sharkpool... -File Photo
SOI 22 Sukhumvit Rd
Nalu Nani seemed like a good idea at the time, but was never really busy. They have now called it a day (night). Best of luck on the rebound... -File Photo
SOI 22 Sukhumvit Rd
Mimi Massage has popped back out of the crypt and re-rolled out the red carpet. Keep on keeping on. -File Photo
By the time you read this the The Whiskey Gentlemen's Club will have opened on the first subsoi on the right. We'll try to get some better pics next time 'round. Welcome them to the briar patch...
Under construction for many months, and open for fully one month, The Hidden Vault has become as scarce as the Luscinia denesi. It is being renovated into the Roots Massage (which should likely be open by the time you read this). Pics to follow next issue.
SOI DEAD ARTIST (Sukhumvit Soi 33)
The Baron Lounge was closed on our New Year's Eve survey, so we gave it the benefit of the doubt. It was still closed a month later, so we were concerned it had closed for keeps. However, this last time past, they were lit up as usual. Welcome back to the salt mines. Located in Subsoi Pan Pan. -File Photo
SOI DEAD ARTIST (Sukhumvit Soi 33)
Joy, up on the upper deck of the S 33 Compact Hotel, has closed. As they often do. We'll check back next month and report any changes. -File Photo.
While there were no changes in inventory of Nitespots (up or down) on Soi Eden, we noticed that Magic Table had opened up a large area of their bar - more visible to passers-by. It seems to have worked, they did look busy when we passed by. Gotta let the train roll on...
This month Midnite Hour continues to review Bangkok'sNightlife Scene offering live entertainment, both foreign and local, as found in the bigger hotels, expat Night Entertainment Areas, and other Venues within the City.
The then-'superstar' songstress Brenda Lee (best known for her still-popular "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"), performed at a couple of Venues in Bangkok that month / year. The Tropicana (a Hilton hotel) was located deep on Silom Road, near the New Road Night Entertainment Area.

The Treniers were a popular American R&B / blues group headed up by Claude & Cliff Trenier (identical twins).

Seldom do I 'pan' a Nitespot, but what sort of excitement is generated in prospective customers when they see an ad for a 'goulash bar'? Then, the bar advertises its location next to a gas station on an obscure soi. Was this supposed to herald the makings of a great evening out on the town? Needless to say, this Goulash Bar didn't 'make it to the future'.

Bernard Trink entertainment insert
Above, Bernard Trink covers a mix of venues around Bangkok. New to us is the Marco Polo Club near Patpong, and the New Kings Heaven Night Club at the Majestic downtown on Rajdamnoern Rd. Also mentioned is the already well-known Sani Chateau in the Geylang Night Entertainment Area.

American born Philippines singer Gigi Galon is probably the most well-known entertainer of the day that never made the "A-List" (or Wikipedia). She performed on virtually all television variety shows from Ed Pahor' Tonight Show, Johnny Carson Tonight Show, the Joey Bishop Show, Bandstand, and all points in between.

How many are old enough to remember when a 'starlet' would offer her measurements as a confirmation of beauty and desirability? How many of today's budding actresses would be up for this?

;Ray Anthony, now long retired, was a bandleader, trumpeter, songwriter and actor. He rose to prominence as a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Ray Anthony first visited Bangkok in June 1967 (at Sani Chateau). We note the relatively new Marcopolo was getting a lot of Press in 1969.

This insert provides a couple of old Patponghistorical bits worth recording. Bacchus Restaurant was both upstairs and downstairs, the upstairs being the bar.

The popular Spanish Eyes(Surawong Road) would eventually move to Patpong 2 Road, upstairs on The Ramp, where it survived for a number of years.
ABangkok art gallery, Maison JE, is presenting a display of mostly acrilic-on-canvas paintings by seven graffiti artists from three different nations - Switzerland, France and Thailand. The name of the exhibit is Concrete Dream, which will make it sound more "graffiti-like", more edgy, more street-smart. The paintings themselves, mostly of the artist's more recognizable tags and throw-ups from the past, are smartly displayed about the gallery, however none contain the thought-provoking, socially relevant, sometimes humorous artistry that differentiates street art from just plain 'art'. The artists, (based on the price of their representative pieces), likely envision themselves as Banksys-in-the-making. Prices of the individual pieces range from Baht 25,000 to Baht 98,000 (no, that is not a typo). We wish them luck, but we don't envision a stampede of buyers any time soon...
